Advanced Portfolio Administration (APA)
Why APA?
APA is the sister module to the IMVS front office module, Models,
Decisions and Orders. It takes over at the point that the deals
to be processed have been firmed up. It provides a very comprehensive
back office system which will minimise the clerical effort involved
in administrating clients accounts and will ensure N2 compliance
requirements are fully catered for.
What makes APA different?
APA gives the user the ability to maintain multiple Portfolios
within a single client account and this is a key attribute of
the system, one client can hold: Discretionary portfolios, General
Peps, Single Company Peps and Maxi ISA, etc, there is no restriction
to what a client can hold. The windows look front end means the
user can easily navigate to other areas of the client record from
the portfolio view screen. The user has the flexibility so that
each portfolio may have a different product/service level attached
to it providing a set of default standards e.g. specific fee rates,
sets of cash accounts, etc.
What does it do?
Investment Accounting
APA is a multi- currency system allowing balances and transactions
in any range of currencies defined within the system.
Client and market cash accounting are key areas of functionality
within the APA module. Cash transactions and balances are held for
clients (portfolios), stockbrokers, unit trust managers, introducers/consultants,
banks and the firm itself. A separate set of capital, income, deposit
and non-managed accounts are maintained for each service level that
a client linked to.
The module allows cash transactions to be input, reviewed, reported
and cancelled. The cash transactions may be related to, and automatically
generated by, core processes such as dealing, fee charging and dividend
distributions. Transactions may also by manually input via journal
entries, in either case the entries have the same effect. The status
of cash amounts may be tracked through unsettled and settled status.
These may be modified individually against the items or en-masse
through bulk processes such as settlement. Audit trails of every
cash transactions are also provided.
Transaction Handling
Once a client portfolio has been created, there are a myriad of
transactions that occur daily, APA offers a full suit of Corporate
Event transactions, which will process the events in bulk across
all clients.

APA gives the
user the flexibility, dependant on their business needs, when dealing
to automatically process bought and sold deals both singly or in
bulk where they can be distributed across client groups.
Dividends
can be received in bulk and distributed to individual client cash
accounts. Cash held in deposit or capital accounts can be automatically
swept into overnight money fund accounts.
Capital Gains Reporting
As part of the core system APA provides a CGT service. The system
stores the client's full details and calculates the CGT position.
The user can both view and report on a client's realised position.
In order to help the user maximise a client annual exemption they
can ascertain the unrealised position for "what-if" sale scenarios.
The system is very comprehensive and complies with the latest tax
initiatives.
Performance
APA uses an Oracle 8 Database and Oracle
stored procedures to produce outstanding performance. You will be
impressed with the volume of transactions that can be processed
through a small server.
Reporting
A wide range of business reports
are available, both at management and client level. The system provides
end of process reports and audit reports.
Client Accounting
APA contains a full double entry cash accounting and general ledger
system providing everything from a complete trial balance and a
day end cash report.
Fee and Commissions Accounting
Fees and commissions are handled effectively and swiftly, fee levels can be set by product
type or by client or by client group. Fee invoices can automatically
be generated for clients.
Automatic Price Feeds
You choose the vendor, APA will use their price feed to update your portfolios as required,
whether it is: Finstat, Reuter, Bloomberg, Financial Express or
Value Link.
Data Export
There are times when information needs to
be extracted from the database and passed on to third parties or
other systems. APA allows you to create data export tables for exactly
for this purpose.
Agency Crosses
Why pay external bodies to buy
and sell the same stock, APA allows internal agency crosses, where
you are the broker when handling stock between different groups
of clients.
